November 22nd marks the launch of the most student friendly weekly event probably ever, FRAT HOUSE!

Thursday’s at Alloneword are back with a weekly student night and it’s going to be even friendlier than you could have imagined. So do something different and get down to other side of the mall. Celebrate the end of exams and get disgraceful at Alloneword with tunes provided by Fid Frantic, Tom Gazel and the Alloneword all-stars.

Plastic Wood Film Clip Lauch

“The debut album from Brisbane boys Plastic Wood has been a long time coming, but make no mistake, the wait is well and truly worth it.” – Time Off

Daft, dreamy, a little dubious, Plastic Wood is growing up. Their debut album Australian Weather was a diverse 13 track collection of songs about life-lethargy, social politics, casual alcoholism and the people around us. Touches of 20^th century rock, 70s folk and pop songwriter influence; industrial bass grooves, percussive drive, acoustic/electric fusion – a tip of the hat to the hard work pub ethos, without losing sight of pop sensibility, an honest but coded lyricism and a rollicking adaptation of folk ‘n’ roll.

Yet, they have just finished a single and film clip for a vastly different musical beast. Country Town is a lively ballad: reflective, yet defiantly looking to a designed and positive road ahead. Produced and recorded by the band in multiple spaces in Brisbane, this time the tendency for measured harmony and groove has stepped back for a choir and an honest, emotionally-strained lead vocal. Amongst a garage guitar-driven, thick instrumentation, the track rolls poignantly with the Hammond styling of Dan Mansfield (The Gin Club, You Am I). The remaining layers are provided by the two main antagonists, Sean Dunne and Nathan Gallagher – a new chapter following the multiple collaboration that was Australian Weather.

Country Town is the first of a series of songs that represent the now of a natural progression of tunes and stories, with the bonus of a melody and lyrics that land centre stage in your head, no later than the first listen.

“After releasing music as ‘Unlikely Superheroes’ over the past few years, Brisbane duo Riley Nottingham and Emma Walton are set to release new music in 2012 as ‘Little Buffalo’.

The pair released their debut EP ‘Shooting Doves’ in 2010 and have since played throughout Brisbane’s iconic venues, joined onstage by the likes of Alex Elliott (drums) and Caitlin ‘Charlie’ Farmer (bass).

This second distribution is a 5 track EP, recorded at Airlock Studios with Yanto Browning and mastered by Dave Neil at Modern Mastering. Lead single Travel On is now available as a free download on Triple J Unearthed.

Under the guidance of mentor Graham Ashton of Footstomp Music, Little Buffalo will launch their self-titled EP on Friday 11th May at Alloneword, Brisbane and Saturday 12th May at The Spotted Cow, Toowoomba.”

Terms and conditions

1. Alloneword is dedicated to the responsible service of alcohol and therefore it reserves the right to only serve alcohol in accordance with the 1991 Liquor act.

2. Any person who is deemed to be unduly intoxicated will be either refused alcohol or asked to leave the premises. Not doing so can incur a fine.

3. Due the RSA $5000 tab has been allocated for numbers totaling 200. If 200 people do not attend function tab will be pro rartered. to an amount equivalent to $25 per head.

4. $5000 tab will be made up of a mix of food (platters) and drinks. $1000 in food and $4000 in drinks or part there of.

5. Competition prize is not transferrable

6. The winners are responsible for the collection of the prize Alloneword. If contestant does not make a reasonable attempt to collect competition then prize will be forfeited.

7. Function dates only available on a Friday or Saturday from 7pm and will be at the discretion of Alloneword management.

8. Bar selection provided will be at the discretion of Alloneword management.

9. Contestants will only have entered the competition if they click ‘allow’ sharing and data collection. Purely clicking ‘like’ does not complete the steps need to enter competition.

10. Any bar tab not finished will be surrendered by competition winner on the night

11. Only those over 18 will be eligible to win

12. In the case of the intervention of any outside act, agent or event which prevents or significantly hinders the Promoter’s ability to proceed with the competition on the dates and in the manner described in these terms and conditions, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, strike, war, act of terrorism, the Promoter may in its absolute discretion cancel the competition and recommence it at an appropriate time

13. Winners will be notified by Facebook on Tuesday 1/9/12 . An email will also be sent.

14. The promoter’s decision is final and the promoter will not enter into correspondence regarding the result.

Here at alloneword bar we loves tha gansta and to celebrate Public Enemy’s up an coming tour this Brisbane venue is giving away 1 double pass to see the Chuck D, Flava Flav and Professor Griff live in concert on the 10/5/12.
